Adobe illustrator, we also call AI for short. It is an industry standard vector illustration software for publishing multimedia images. As an excellent vector graphics processing software, AI can use widely in many areas. Such as printing and publishing, professional illustration, poster book layout, multimedia image processing, web page production, etc.
In fact, the scope of AI is broad. But many people in the industry only know PS. And they are not skillful in AI’s control. I suggest that all designers learn to use AI as much as possible. Because if you combine AI with PS, it will be of great help to your design.
1. The Functional Division of AI
AI is a practical software. So what is its main function?
We divide the main functions of AI into the following two levels:
Painting function: We can use AI to draw plane, plane+ 3D and 3D graphics.
Design function: We can use AI for font design, graphic or icon design (including UE/UI graphic and icon design, flat graphic and icon design, etc.), UE/UI design, logo design (logo), graphic layout design (including magazines, cards, picture albums, DM, advertising posters, etc.), product packaging design, product appearance design, auxiliary linear design of architecture, etc.
2. How to Learn AI Systematically
The biggest feature of AI is vector, so it can complement the bitmap software Photo shop. If we use it with Photo shop, they can perform very well in different fields. At the beginning of the article, I suggest that designers use AI and PS together. Only in this way can we take the functions of the two software to the extreme at the same time. In fact, AI is very powerful in many aspects except that it cannot edit pictures. So we should dig into AI technology in multiple dimensions. Only by mastering every skill of AI can its functions play roles in different fields. If you have great skills, you can design with great facility in different fields. And you can get good results.
Learning to be AI masters, I suggest that you can dig into six aspects. Such as font design, logo design, graphic design, icon design, typesetting design, and packaging design.
Multi-Dimensional Learning
As designers, we all need to understand and learn many related design knowledges in multiple dimensions. It includes graphic design, web design, color philosophy, and so on.
3D tracks a lot of activities now, but 2D and 2.5D graphic designs are still popular. And they can also make very extreme visual effects. 2D and 2.5D are still the mainstream design, and 3D is a good supplement. AI is still an important design software for graphics and layout design. Therefore, we recommend that you not only learn PS, but also AI.
