Virgin Media's mobile TV service has launched on Kindle Fire, bringing 75 channels to Amazon's budget tablet. Available to all Virgin TiVo customers, the app works in conjunction with TiVo boxes to stream live TV on the go.
The 75 streaming channels include BT Sport 1 and 2, MTV, Sky 1, Sky Living and the Disney Channel. Sky Sports and Sky Movies are not available to stream on the Virgin TV Anywhere app for Kindle, but are available through the Virgin website on laptop and desktop.
Virgin said that access to Sky Sports and Sky Movies on iOS would be coming in mid-August, with an Android version following soon after. There is no mention of Sky Sports and Sky Movies streaming on the new Kindle Fire app.
The Virgin TV Anywhere app for Kindle Fire is compatible with the Kindle Fire second generation, Fire HD 7, HD 8.9 , HDX7 and HDX 9. As well as streaming live TV the app can also manage a TiVo box to remotely record shows and manage content. The Kindle Fire can also be used as a remote control for a TiVo box when at home.
The likes of BBC iPlayer and Netflix are also available for Kindle devices, along with Amazon's own Prime Instant Video service. Sky Go is not currently available for Kindle Fire, despite having apps for both Android and iOS.
ITV Player is also absent from Amazon's Kindle app store, although STV's on demand app is available. Channel 4's 4oD catch-up service and Channel 5's Demand 5 are both also available on compatible Kindle devices.
